Share your pain: ask your sports injury questions and answer them.
It’s impossible to be up and about in London first thing on a Sunday morning in early spring without getting the feeling of being surrounded by a quiet force field of energy, determination and pain. I mean, of course, the thousands of recreational runners who are in training for the London Marathon, which will have taken place by the time you read this. I don’t think I’ll ever cease to be amazed by the phenomenon of marathon running – its allure, disciplining power and potential to change people’s lives. Remarkable.
This month’s SIB is weighty and varied, full of must-keep information. I am also delighted to welcome several writers new to these pages, including Deborah Eastwood and Rosemary Keer, who share with us their expertise in how to manage the problems faced by hypermobile children. Tracy Maunder, another SIB first-timer, has some invaluable practical advice on how to prepare your clients for joint operations. And leading off this month is Nick Grantham, who marks his return to SIB with an overview of what the research can tell us about a trendy new training / rehab modality: vibration platform training. Plus we have a very useful update for you on the management of fifth metatarsal fractures – always guaranteed to set off an argument about how to handle them.
As ever, if anything in SIB pricks you into a response or you can offer insights that other readers might find helpful, do email me at the address below.
