Throwing injuries are incredibly common in certain sports, with athletes putting a huge amount of strain on their shoulders, elbows and other parts of the arm.

Sports such as baseball, cricket and American football always cause injuries relating to throwing. The snapping motion that throwing the ball causes can cause instant injury, but athletes can also pick up throwing injuries through repetitive strain.

The most common throwing injuries are rotator cuff tendonitis, elbow tendonitis and frozen shoulders. All three of these injuries are a result of cumulative stress.

Avoiding throwing injuries is difficult, especially in sports where athletes have to constantly repeat the throwing action. However, by improving their throwing technique, developing their arm and shoulder muscles and undertaking long flexibility routines prior to training and competition, athletes give themselves a much better chance of steering clear of injury.
