Subscapularis problem involving the pectoralis major and minor.

Question:

Subscapularis problem involving the pectoralis major and minor.

Hi.
Thank you for this service.
My doctor thinks I have a subscapularis problem involving the pectoralis major and minor.
I have had it for about 2 months.
The pain is most evident when putting my arm in a coat sleeve, for example, and especially painful at night when in bed and turning over.
He recommended I do exercises for it.
Could you please let me know what sort of exercises I could do?
Both my wrists have had surgery (not carpel tunnell) so loading them is not a good idea.
I had a tear in my left shoulder right through the tendon which seems to have mended itself OK.
I am 62 and live in the country.
Your help would be very much appreciated.
Kind regards
Bronte.

Answer:

Hi Bronte,
Your peoblem doesnt seem to be what you say it is. Pectoralis minor and major are 2 different muscles and so is subscapularis.
Considering the data you ve provided about yourself and not having evaluated personally I would like to think more in terms of a rotator cuff degeneration to say the least.
You need to visit a shoulder therapist and get the following things done
1. Cuff stregthening exs.
2. Improve your core.
3. Incase you have range restrictions at the shoulder;which I think you do since u have problem dressing; do your range exs.
Goodluck

Answer:

Sounds like frozen shoulder to me - especially when you mentioned it gives gyp at night - there is bound to be something on this brilliant site to help. I had it for 4 years, which is rediculous - and as a fitness instructor, very inhibiting. Hope it clears up sooner than that. Its a strange ailment to have - sometimes exercise made it worse, yet other times did not affect it at all. The same with total rest - it did not always help at all. I ended up having steroidal injections into the shoulder joint - a few in a row so I could continue to work (not ideal I know). One day I realised it had gone away and never came back. Best of luck.
