foot injuries

Question:

foot injuries

Along the outside, bottom of my foot, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches in front of the heel, there is sort of a bump. This bump has become somewhat swollen and painful on the heel side (back side) (where the 5th metatarsal attaches to the bones in the back of the foot?). It is particularly painful when arising from sitting or reclining for a period of time. After limping around gingerly for maybe 5 minutes, the pain seems to pretty much go away. Except after being on my feet for a long period of time it then begins to hurt and ache all of the time. What might this be?
