Is a seated leg press safe for someone with lumbar stenosis?

Question:

Is a seated leg press safe for someone with lumbar stenosis?

Hi,
I have ruptured 2 discs in my lower back in the past 3 years (L4, L3). After missing several months of work with each, I have recovered from both and have resumed my full time duties as a big rig truck driver. I have only occasional minor pain and numbness in my hip and lower leg.

I am 5'10" 165lbs.. I like to stay in shape, and lift at my gym. I want to be able to work my lower body safely. In your opinion, should I stick with leg ext., and leg curls? Or is it pretty safe to do seated leg presses with my back supported? Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,

Jeff Karczewski
