How successful is prolotherapy in treating a tear of the gluteus medius in an ultrarunner?

Question:

How successful is prolotherapy in treating a tear of the gluteus medius in an ultrarunner?

A diagnostic ultrasound shows a partial tear of my gluteus medius where it originates from the ileum. I am an ultrarunner/adventure racer. I've had 11 weeks of rehab/therapy with little to no results-still have pain after I run. So now the doc wants to treat it with prolotherapy. How successful do you think this will be? He says if I do not do this then scar tissue will lay down over time. What do you think about prolotherapy in this case?
