ANy exercise above gentle walking and I have tightening and pain in my calves. I cannot even contemplate jogging. This is a long term problem but nothing I have tried so far has helped improve the situation - in fact it seems to be getting worse.

Answer:

Who knows?

But start with the basics. You are what you eat. Processed foods, those with chemicals and additives and your usual suspects - alcohol, caffeine, fried foods, sugar, pastry, junk food - should all be dropped. A proper diet and adequate hydration are the best places to start. Basically, if you don't consider yourself health-food conscious I would be definitely looking at this aspect.

Perhaps you are deficient in some vitamins & minerals. Magnesium would be the first I would try as it is intricately linked with muscle function and most soils are depleted of it. Magnesium is a great for sore muscles.

Perhaps you are chronically dehydrated - this will tighten you up.

Perhaps it is your mental state. It's not surprising that very tense, emotional, neurotic, depressed and anxiety ridden people have very tight bodies. Also, those people who do not handle change or new things and those who are rigid in their mind set, generally are very tight too.

Iyengar or Ashtanga yoga may be a good place for you to start conditioning your body. And a good natropathic, ayurvedic or TCM doctor will help.

Hope this helps.
