Can ski boots cause ischemic tissue injury?Worried

Question: Can ski boots cause ischemic tissue injury?Worried

hi-

First time skier-wore boots with top strap way too tight-compressed shin/calf 6 days ago. The top of one actually hurt quite a bit but took lessons anyway. Is it possible that I could have caused a crush injury/ischemic tissue damage to leg? I can move feet etc. ok-nothing looks blue but still a bit of pain on shin and not sure about further up leg. I read about compartment syndrome-does it sound like this could have happened and after 6 days would I need to see a doc.-hard to get appts. Thanks for any advice-never again....m

Answer:

Hi there

I am an Australian Kinesiologist/sports therapist

Your problem is related to having the fleece that surround the muscles ( anterior tibialis, soleus) damaged. This fleece is part of our connective tissue and functions on Vitamin C as fuel. So do the soleus/Gastrocnemius muscles, the calf muscles. They belong (energywise) to the immune system and this system works on Vitamin C and Zinc. I recommend a supplement. 3000 Mg of Vitamin C daily (take 250 mg every 2 hours is best) and 75 Mg of zinc, best taken with evening meal. Healing will start within days.

Good luck,

Hans
