Have any of you guys been hyper-extended backwards while surfing/body surfing?

Question: Have any of you guys been hyper-extended backwards while surfing/body surfing?

I was thrown violently from a wave into the water, hitting the water chest first and bending my body backwards, in such a way that my fingertips could touch my heels. I heard a loud pop, became numb for a second, then swam back to shore. I have had extreme tightness and popping in my back ever since. I have tried the chiropractor and acupuncturist with no success. I am wondering if some of you have had this happen to you or someone you know, and have treated the injury with success. If so, what was the injury and what did you do to heal yourself? Thanks!

Answer:

This is probably not a lot of help to you. I was catapulted from a windsurfer about 17 years ago whilst wundsurfing in France in Gale force winds. I hit the water, my neck went back and my whole body went numb from the neck downwards. I almost drowned in the next two minutes before the use of my arms and legs came back. 2 hours in the water and 1 day in the spinal injuries unit showed a problem of spinal cord being trapped by arthritic growth at the back and burst disks at the front - at two disk levels. The accident therefore stretched my spinal cord.
This was operated on 6 months later with total sucess. They trimmed the disks and fused them.
Probably not what you wanted to hear.
Best of luck anyway.
