Question: HELP! I injured my knee & although it ONLY hurts when I try to kneel (even on the bed)--it is so excrutiating I stop immediately

I hurt my knee 2 weeksn ago. I'm not sure how b/c I tripped over the door threshhold and fell on my OTHER knee (which bruised badly). I didn't even know I hurt the left knee. But the next day I tried to kneel, and the pain (outside the kneecap on the outer part of the knee--not the inside part--in the fleshy area, not hte kneecap itself) was so excrutiating, I stopped immediately and couldn't continue to kneel. I've tried to kneel many times since then (even on the bed) and it's still just as excrutiating! I does not hurt AT ALL during any other time! I can walk, run, bend, bicycle, etc. It only hurts when I try to kneel--and it is excrutiating! What the heck did I do? And do I need to see a doctor??? THanks so much!
