How can you tell from an X ray if there is damage to ligament?

Question: How can you tell from an X ray if there is damage to ligament?

In this case, there is fracture of the medial malleolus.

If there is damage to ligament, after 3 weeks to immobilization will the ligament have healed with scars?

If so, how can we know?

What are the dangers of other problems in the future? In this case we are talking about a 9 year old.

thank you
