I appear to have ruptured my rectus femoris. Will this injury heal itself with time, or is surgery required.

Question: I appear to have ruptured my rectus femoris. Will this injury heal itself with time, or is surgery required.

17 days ago I (believe) I ruptured my rectus femoris. There was an audible "pop" in my left thigh and now there is a hollow spot in my thigh and a bulge behind my left knee and at the top left side of my thigh. Thee swelling has reduced in my thigh, but my foot is now swollen and very tender. I also am having some stability problems with my left knee, much like when I snapped my ACL.

Answer:

go straight to hospital

Answer:

Hey Blair

About one year ago I experienced an injury similar to the one you describe. Although I have got an ACL reconstruction where they have used a part of the rectus femoris – patella tendon.
I have been to different specialist in sports medicine. Some have said that I should get a reconstruction (they will use a donor tendon) some say that I should follow a rehabilitate program.
I was just curious of what you have done?
