I am an Australian Kinesiologist/sports therapist.
The effects of Iliotibial injuries are widespread, and can affect a lot of muscles. Also the severity of the original injury can have a lot to do with the symptoms. The condition of your immune system at the time of injury has a lot to do with the healing mechanism. There are no 2 people alike in their reactions. We are all individuals and the injuries we sustain should not be pidgeonholed. The days of the Newtonian mechanical model flew out of the window when quantum physics blew in. This is not necessarily accepted as gospel truth by the medical system who are still into making money out of changing parts rather than changing fuel. What we eat is what we are.
Firstly you need an accurate diagnosis - a physio can easily diagnose your problem and direct you towards the best form of treatment. Pain down your whole leg may well be a radiculopathy (referred pain from your back), rather than an ITB problem.
