Question: if i fell during running and have had knee pain since what can i do and what type of condition is it?

hi

i fell during basketball season when i was running about two years ago. i have had knee problems ever since and the doctor told me there is not much they can do for me. they are not quite sure what is wrong. i have knee pain after walking for a long time or after going up a flight of stairs. i also have numbness in my knees when i am done walking or when i am playing with my brothers. what can i do? what type of injury is it? i really want to play sports again but i dont know how to keep my knees from hurting me.

sincerely,
basketball girl

Answer:

Sounds a lot like you have PFPS.
Patello femoral pain syndrome.
Where is the pain? If it is around/behind the kneecap area then it sounds more than likely you have this. Basically it means that your patella is not tracking right and is rubbing with your bones. Once you start physio it is actually very treatable. It mostly involves strength training for certain muscles that will help the kneecap track correctly.

I had PFPS in one knee, rehabbed it fully and now have no problems with it. I can remember though that stairs were one of the worst things for me when I had it. I would recommend you going to a good physio therapist who can diagnose you and treat you with a solid rehab.
