Missing 8mm x 10mm piece of Cartlidge in Knee

Question: Missing 8mm x 10mm piece of Cartlidge in Knee

I am a 43 year old, male, competitive distance runner. I began to have left knee pain at the beginning of October. I had an MRI and the Doctor said that I am missing an 8mm x 10mm piece of cartlidge that cushions the knee from the bone. Recommended that I find a different activity to stay fit other than running. I have not run in 15 days. I still have some discomfort going up and down steps. Any suggesstions that could get me back to running pain free would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:

There is hope for you. The key is to determining how this cartilage got injured to begin with. The answer lies in the biomechanics of your running and often is the result of tightness/weakness in your hips/ankles. The knee joint is made up of your femur (controlled by the hip) and your tibia (controlled by the ankles).

We have had huge success in returning runners to pain-free participation by doing some simple screening tests (which can be done on-line) and prescribing some very specific things for you to do. I would love to help you out.

Just know that pain-free running is more possible than you think, even with your condition.
