should i opt for a surgical correction for my existing inguinal hernia

Question: should i opt for a surgical correction for my existing inguinal hernia

I was diagonised with inguinal hernia a year back. How ever my doctor suggested that i could wait for three more years if i need to go for a surgical correction of the condition as it did not pose any immediate threat to my health or the sports i am invoved.

I am a 52 years old body builder and ISSA certified personal fitness trainer. i have been involved in serious body building for the past 30 years. i am a personal trainer by profession. my questions are....

1.Shall i continue with my Ab wrkouts like crunches, rope crunches, reverse crunches as usual to maintain decent abs witout agrevating the medical problem of my hernia. (please note that as a personal trainer its absolute necessary for me to maintain a good physique with decent abs and for that i have to do regular Ab workouts). i find no discomfort or pain in the hernia spot while doing my ab workouts except that a small bulge in the inguinal area existss for the last one year. i dont think its size increased over the year.

2. can i do squats with barbell on my shoulders as i find this is one exercise that helps me to keep my thighs in good size and shape while maintaining my core stability and strength.

3. If i opt for a surgery and the subsequent healing, shall i start doing my ab workout and squats with medium weights (less weigts than my absolute maximum). I just cant think that i have to live without doing these exercises for the rest of my life... atleast for the next 20 years or so.

4. If i go for surgery, how long i have to wait for starting my regular weight training as i want to minimise that period to retain my clients for whom i do personal training.

PLEASE HELP.
Thank you,
olympiajay
