sore shin bones for a couple of months caused by running!

Question: sore shin bones for a couple of months caused by running!

i started running a while ago (about 7 weeks) and my shins have been sore ever since! at the beggigning it was too painful to continue running, especially the insides of my shins. it feels like it's on the tibia. the severe insides pain is pretty much gone but the front surface pain persists. it hurts only when i press my fingers on it or by tapping of hard objects.
i resumed runnung after a couple of weeks but reduced the intensity and duration and combined it with cross trainer. the pain is mostly concentrated at the middle and fades away as you move towards either end of the tibia i can also feel tiny lumps along the affected area.
should i continue running or change the intensity, time, etc?
how longer is it normal for the condition to last?
than you

Answer:

You almost certainly have shin splints. There are 3 kinds of shin splints, but I don't remember what they are. Treatment is easy - ice it. Ice it after every run. Prevention is easy too.

The kind of shin splints I'm most familiar with go like this: When you run, you strengthen the calf muscles. If they become very strong, they actually pull the muscle that runs along your shin bone away from where it's supposed to be. That hurts.

To fix it, strengthen that muscle. Lie on your back on the floor or a mat. Bring your knees up about 12 (depending on how tall you are) inches off the floor, with your feet still on the floor. Now raise your toes up. Do that to fatigue. Rest a few seconds, then do 4 more.

When you get good at this exercise, move your toes back and forth like windshield wipers.

You can also contact your local runners' club, and have them analyze & advise you on your running style.
