Unknown knee inj, need help

Question: Unknown knee inj, need help

During football, in the first round of the playoffs a team member was tackled into the lateral side of my R knee. My knee was locked while i was blocking and I fell and was imediately aware I had injured my knee. I kept playing because I had no replacement, and lets face it, that game is what we've dreamed of for four years. That night and the next day i noticed sever edema. I took the next 3 days off with constant compression/ice cycles and the swelling decreased dramaticlly. Despite the swelling going down it still hurt fairly badly and to this day I can't squat, or lounge, ect. where I used to be able to squat 400lbs no problem. I went to the doctor and he said the knee was ok. the pain is on the posterior lateral side of my R knee and goes through to the patella. no radiation. when excersising about 7/10 pain. I do have osgood schlotter disease but this doesnt feel like that.

The mechanism of your injury is classic for the unholy trinity of knee injuries-your medial collateral ligament, Anterior cruciate ligament and cartliage. some docs arent too well versed in knee assessment unless they have an orthopadic background so i would consult a sports physio. you may have done one or a combination of these injuries (or none at all) but a good physiotherapist should be able to put you on the right track!

Answer:

Injections are given by a needle directly into the knee joint. There are two types of injections used to treat symptoms of knee osteoarthritis: joint lubricants (viscosupplementation) and cortisone (steroids injection).
