I've been a runner for over ten years, lately, I seem to be dragging my left leg. I "try" to correct it, but I seem to keep going back to it! It made for a miserable run yesterday. I am training for another half marathon. Help! Cant do that for 13 miles!

Hello
At last someone with similar symptoms to the ones I've had for years. Go and see a reputable osteopath who has loads of experience. You've pinched something somewhere in your buttocks or lower back and you might also have lost proprioception. So you need a proper assessment. Stop long distances right now as you're just going to fatigue and compound the problem. It's not necessarily serious (like a slipped disk) but it will require manipulation and retraining - and time. If you try to correct it when running, you'll just put strain on your groin. Try running on grass to help the leg move but go easy - alternating walking and running.
Also, if you sit a lot at work, walk around more!
Let 's know how you get on.

Having treated many a client with similar symptoms, it will more than likely be nerve impingement, originating from the lumbosacral region. It is the nerve that enables the muscles to contract, so it sounds as if you have lost a degree of muscle control, which can usually be treated with the help of an osteopath or chiropractor. I would definately stop running until it has been looked at as it will only aggrevate the inflammation in the area. Keep active(walking) and try to avoid sitting for longer than 20mins at a time.
Hope that helps

Emmanuelle might be saying "ät last someone with similar symptoms"" - be careful here as nearly everyone will behave differently. Get it checked out ASAP to discount any other reasons why the nerves may be getting compressed or tethered in some way.

Submitted 18 weeks 1 day ago by Magdy AlmaghrabyI am an orthopedic doctor and i can tell you clearly that no one can tell you exactly what is cause of your problem as you are describing above, it could be due to strain of any muscle ,tendon , or ligament. It can also be caused by any inflammation of any of the acting joints of the affected part, it can be long bone stress, it can be in the blood supply of the affected area, or inflammation of any tissue, away from other rare causes, but infinitely you need to rest from running and take any anti inflammatory drug like Brufen 600 mg three times daily, and try to localize more where is the most painful area , then you can see a doctor to help you to have a valid diagnosis what is wrong with you. by the way all inflammations are self limiting and can be cured only by rest. Wish you very soon recovery
