What type of knee injury is this?

Question: What type of knee injury is this?

A week ago, I fell while running and landed on a rock with all of my weight on my knee cap. It caused a small laceration and a large abrasion on the upper part of my knee cap. Since that time, it is VERY painful to kneel on the knee, and I have had no trouble walking or moving until this morning. I tried (gingerly) to lightly jog and my knee completely buckled and gave way. The pain was on the lateral aspect of the posterior part of my knee (almost central, not very lateral). Since this morning, it is very sore. I noticed that I can bend my leg behind me if my toes are NOT pointed, but if they are and I try to bend up my leg, it causes the same pain.

Answer:

This sounds like you possibly ruptured or tore you quad tendon. I hope you have already had it checked out.

Answer:

Well if you havent gone to see your doctor yet, you should. It sounds like you might have torn your acl or menicus. I suggest you dont attempt to run until the proper test have been preformed. There is the Lachman test for a torn acl which is the most commonly used. I had a torn acl last year and refused to see the doctor, one day I was putting too much weight on that leg and it gave out, tearing my menicus as well.
